In Week 2's lesson, we learned about audio recording, USB audio interfaces, microphones, signal flow and gain structure, audio effects, and more.
We utilised a studio equipped with two condenser microphones connected to an audio interface. Given our large group size, we took turns speaking and later stitched the audio clips together in Ableton.
Explaining the effects proved quite tricky for me, as I struggle with speaking and articulating clearly. Sometimes, you understand something but can’t explain it well to others. To assist us, we incorporated some snippets from ChatGPT and examples from online resources. We also faced challenges in ensuring the podcast didn’t sound too robotic, as if we were merely reading from a script.
For me, the main challenge is articulating my thoughts, as Nathan handled the operation of the software. Additionally, working collaboratively in a small room with awkwardly set up microphones was difficult. I also noticed a problem with plosives in the microphones; the 'P' sounds were distorting the audio signal, exacerbated by the lack of pop filters.
We used Ableton and two condenser microphones connected to a Mac through an audio interface. Nathan employed some built-in audio effects to demonstrate the audio effects we discussed in the podcast as they came up.
